Dr. G. H. Budd Sapp, Fairmont State University
Chris Lambert, Fairmont State University
Presentation Description: Fairmont State University Learning Technologies Center purchased a license to beta test Respondus StudyMate Class Server with its Blackboard Vista learning management system. StudyMate Class Server is described as the “ultimate study group” where teachers and students create study materials in a collaborative, web-based environment. Fairmont State faculty were invited to a seminar that demonstrated the functionality of StudyMate and its possible utilization in enhanced and on-line courses. This presentation will focus on a faculty member’s course that implemented StudyMate as a virtual learning tool for teacher education candidates. End of the course survey results will be shared with the conference participants related to the students using StudyMate as a study technique in a collaborative, web-based environment. Participants will view the process of how study items are created, edited, and reviewed in the StudyMate templates. Attendees will also learn how student participation in StudyMate can be tracked and graded which provides another way to assess student knowledge. Additionally, teacher candidates’ perspectives will be shared on how StudyMate was beneficial in their current role as a student as well as their future role as a teacher.
